Think about what might be on those VHS tapes tucked away in a closet!

Video Tape Transfers

Video tapes weren't built to last forever. Most formats begin to deteriorate within 10–25 years, and many tapes recorded in the 80s and 90s are already past their prime. Don't wait until it's too late — the sooner you bring them in, the better your chances of recovering everything on them. Your video tapes are cared for by our trained archiving experts, who will treat your materials with the utmost care. Your items never leave our store or get shipped away, and we return all original media to you once the process is complete.

Your Memories, Kept Close to Home
When you trust someone with your family memories, you deserve to know exactly where they're going. Unlike mail-in services, your tapes stay in our Lansing store from drop-off to pickup — handled only by our team, never a stranger's warehouse. Think about what might be on those tapes tucked away in a closet: birthday parties, holidays, a grandparent's voice, a child's first steps. Those moments deserve to be protected, and we're honored to help you keep them safe.

FAQ: Video Tape Transfer Services

  • How do you make sure you capture everything on my tape?

Every tape is rewound and then captured start to finish to ensure we recover all content. If a tape stops prior to expected recording times, we capture it a second time for verification.

  • Can you keep my tapes organized the way I have them labeled?

Absolutely! If your tapes are labeled, we'll keep the content in chronological order. Have special notes? We'll do our best to include them. These are precious memories, so if you have a special request or question — just ask us.

  • What happens after my tape is captured, and how do I receive my files?

Once your tape is captured, a trained technician will review the footage for dead space and commercial content, which gets removed from the final output. We evaluate each tape for the best possible quality and then return your digital files in the format of your choosing — USB flash drive, digital download, or DVD disc.

  • Can a deteriorating tape still be transferred?

In many cases, yes — but time is a factor. The sooner you bring in your tapes, the better your chances of a successful transfer. Tapes that have become brittle, moldy, or severely damaged may have limited or partial recovery. If you're unsure about the condition of your tapes, bring them in and we'll take a look.
